Former Tite, Cleber Xavier debuta as a coach at Santos

Tite technical assistant for 24 years, gaucho Cléber Márcio Serpa Xavier won his first opportunity as a coach. He was announced as new coach of Santos early Tuesday night (29). The contract with the club runs until the end of the year. The coach's debut will be next Thursday (1st), when Santos receives the CRB in Vila Belmiro, at 18h (Brasília time), in the first phase of the Brazilian Cup.

Cléber Xavier, 61, will replace Portuguese coach Pedro Caixinha, fired from the club on the 14th. In addition to the Brazilian Cup, Santos disputes the Brazilian Championship, occupying the penultimate place in the overall classification.

Cléber Xavier will have Matheus Balbi, son of Tite, as a technical assistant. It will also feature assistant Vinicius Marques and fitness coach Fabio Mahseredjian. The trio was part of the Brazilian National Team's technical committee between 2016 and 2022. César Sampaio, who has taken over Santos in the last three games, will remain as an assistant to the professional team.

In 37 years of career in football, Cleber Xavier worked for seven years in the Brazilian team, participating in two World Cups (2018 and 2022). In addition to Flamengo, he also had stints at Grêmio, Internacional, Palmeiras, Atlético-MG and Corinthians.
