São Paulo will receive a new tournament from the Women's Tennis Elite in September

After nine -year -old hiatus, Brazil is back on the official calendar of the women's tennis elite. This Wednesday (30), the city of São Paulo was confirmed as headquarters of competition WTA 250, between 6 and 14 September. The SP Open Tournament will be played on a quick block in Villa-Lobos Park, in the west of the capital. Since 2020 the São Paulo metropolis was not hosting an event of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).

SP Open's main key will bring together 32 tennis players, Qualifying 24 participants and the pairs will feature 16 partnerships. The tournament qualifying will take place on September 6 and 7, and simple key competition will follow from 8 to 14 September.

“In addition to quality leisure, SP Open will provide other direct and indirect benefits for the entire population. The presence of great athletes will surely stimulate the practice of tennis, contributing to the emergence of new champions,” said Ricardo Nunes, mayor of São Paulo, after the confirmation of the tournament by IMM, the same that organizes the ATP 500 Rio Open.

Since 2016 Brazil has not received a tournament from the professional circuit of women's tennis. The last ones were WTA Florianópolis and the Open River – this one continues to occur annually, only with men's dispute.
