Residents of Favela do Moinho, located in the center of São Paulo, protested, on Friday (18) against a police action held at the scene. During the protest, they made a barricade and set fire to the Paulista Metropolitan Train Company (CPTM) rails, which crosses the community. The Moinho favela is the only community still existing in the city center.
According to residents, military police vehicles (PM) have been parked since yesterday (17) at the entrance of the favela and surround the surroundings with cones. According to reports, police have threatened families, waving the possibility of a repossession.
This is the second protest organized by the community this week alone. Three days ago, they made an act against the state government project that provides for the implementation of a park on site.

According to the Housing and Urban Development Company (CDHU), the region of Favela do Moinho will be “requalified” and, on site, will be implemented the Parque do Moinho. For this, it will be necessary to remove around 800 families living in the community, “which will be welcomed in worthy homes,” says the CDHU. Family removal is scheduled for next Tuesday (22).
Families, however, claim that their houses, many of them, will be replaced by financed properties outside the center, making it difficult to access day care, job opportunities and infrastructure.
The protest
The presence of the PM in the favela do Moinho motivated the protest of today, which led to the interruption in the lines of trains that circulate in the region.
CPTM reported that the circulation of line 7-Ruby had to be interrupted between the Palmeiras-Barra Funda and Luz stations around 3:10 pm and was eventually resumed at 3:44 pm.

“For the site, the State (from São Paulo) proposed the resettlement of families of the community in order to bring dignity and security to this population, who live at high risk in unhealthy conditions, with voluntary adherence of more than 87% of the community so far. About 50 people protest and ban the entry of the community this afternoon. Police teams monitor the situation to avoid confrontation,” says the secretary's note.
