Labor Day holiday records 98 deaths on the country's highways

Ninety -eight people died on federal highways during the prolonged holiday of Labor Day, second Balance released on Monday (5) by the Federal Highway Police (PRF). The accidents also left 945 people injured.

Operation Labor Day began on April 30 and ending on Sunday (4). Over the five days of operation, 37,865 infraction notices were applied, amid 81,141 people and 70,573 vehicles that were inspected.

In all, 892 traffic claims were recorded. Still according to the PRF, 602 drivers were charged for alcohol -related infractions. Of this total, 507 were charged for refusing to take the test. Another 95 took the test and ended up charged after the result found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

“Because they have high alcohol content in alcohol tests or signs of drunkenness, 54 conductors were arrested and sent to the police station,” the PRF said.

Already the Cameras installed on federal highways registered 20,557 images of vehicles traveling with speed above the limit.

Through operations such as this – made during prolonged holidays, with the intensification of the inspection – PRF tries to combat irregular conduct such as drunk driving and speeding, as well as avoiding even higher numbers of traffic claims.
